Provo Daily Herald: Springville pipeline project update – The intersection at 800 South remains closed as crews continue laying this section of the Central Utah Water Conservancy District (CUWCD) pipe. A second crew is laying the CUWCD pipe around 1400 South and is fast approaching Highway 89. They are scheduled to finish this section and move to 100 North around May 28.

Can anyone shed any light on this mysterious editorial?

High Country News: It takes a district – Escalante Valley citizens plan to save their declining aquifer – Standing in a circle of verdant alfalfa shoots, Cody Staheli peers from under his Staheli Farms ball cap, looking beyond the irrigation lines to the snow-packed mountains framing southern Utah’s Escalante Valley. This year’s snowmelt is expected to be higher than average. “I try not to cuss at the mud,” Staheli says. Deseret News: Great Salt Lake Bird Festival starts Thursday – Birders from all over Utah are converging on Farmington this weekend for the 12th annual Great Salt Lake Bird Festival.  The festival runs through Monday, and some bird-watching field trips are still available. Salt Lake Tribune: Water pipeline going in along 3200 West – The Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District, the agency that provides most of the drinking water for the communities in the Salt Lake Valley, has launched a major pipeline expansion that will begin in Taylorsville and run through West Jordan and South Jordan.

KCPW: Salt Lake County Council mulls Advisory Commission for Jordan River – he Salt Lake County Council will discuss tomorrow whether to create a multi-jurisdictional advisory commission to oversee development and open space preservation along the Jordan River.

KSL: Construction set for new water education center – Groundbreaking ceremonies are planned for Tuesday at the Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District’s new WaterSmart Education Center in West Jordan.  The center will promote water conservation and sustainability. It will include exhibits, a greenhouse, office space and rooms for classes, lectures and special events.

Salt Lake Tribune – Editorial: Drying Up – Nobody would ever call Pat Mulroy diplomatic. The executive director of the Southern Nevada Water Authority can be abrasive and confrontational, and her recent comments about Nevada and Utah water resources were true to form.

KSL: Study says mercury in Great Salt Lake is global problem Scientific studies are turning up answers to a baffling mystery about the Great Salt Lake. The new findings help explain why concentrations of toxic mercury in the lake are higher than anywhere else in the country.

Deseret News: Meetings set to explain groundwater treatment proposal – The first in a series of informational meetings about a proposal to pipe the treated byproducts of a groundwater cleanup project to the Great Salt Lake’s Gilbert Bay is scheduled for Wednesday.
